Small Business PR Statistics: We Surveyed 968 of Our Clients. Here's What the Ones Who Grew Did
By Nic Abelian, founder of AnotherZero
We surveyed 968 AnotherZero clients in September and October 2026, and 97% of the clients who reported business growth had put their press feature to work. Clients who used their feature 3 or more ways were 13.9 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't use it, and clients who used it 5 or 6 ways were 17.9 times as likely. Clients who put it in a sales pitch or a proposal were 2.75 times as likely to report growth as everyone else, and clients who ran it in an ad were 2.54 times as likely as clients who didn't.
Key findings
- 97% of the clients who reported business growth had put their press feature to work. They had shared it on social media, added the "As Seen On" logos to their website, used it in sales pitches, put it in a proposal, added it to their email signature or run it in an ad. It held in each survey on its own: 97.5% in the first and 94.4% in the second.
- The more ways clients used it, the more likely they were to report business growth. Clients who used their feature 3 or more ways were 13.9 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't use it. At 5 or 6 ways, 17.9 times. Even clients who used it just 1 or 2 ways were 6.6 times as likely.
- Putting it in front of prospects went with growth. Clients who used their feature in a sales pitch or a proposal were 2.75 times as likely to report business growth as everyone else.
- Ads went with growth. Clients who ran their feature in an ad were 2.54 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't.
- Clients who used it 3 or more ways were 9.7 times as likely to say it had already paid for itself as clients who hadn't used it. And 91.4% of the clients who said their feature had paid for itself had put it to work.
- "As Seen On" logos went with people bringing it up. Clients with the logos on their website were about twice as likely to say a customer, a prospect or someone in their industry brought the feature up.
- Credibility is the top reason businesses get featured. When clients could pick only 2 reasons, showing up on Google and AI like ChatGPT tied with it for first.
Business growth here means a client named at least one of nine: more clients, better-quality clients, higher prices, a higher sales rate, a higher conversion rate, cheaper leads, a bigger deal or partner, help with investors or lenders, or better hires.
What do businesses do with a press feature after it runs?
They put it where buyers decide. Sharing it on social media was the most common use, and adding the "As Seen On" logos to their website came next. Then came sales pitches and scripts, proposals and presentations, email signatures and ads.
Ads were the use the fewest clients tried, and one of the strongest: clients who ran their feature in an ad were 2.54 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't.
Which ways of using a press feature go with business growth?
Every one of the six ways went with more business growth, and every extra way went with more.
| How clients used their feature | Times as likely to report business growth |
|---|---|
| 5 or 6 ways, vs. clients who didn't use it | 17.9 |
| 3 or more ways, vs. clients who didn't use it | 13.9 |
| At least 1 way, vs. clients who didn't use it | 8.7 |
| 1 or 2 ways, vs. clients who didn't use it | 6.6 |
| In a sales pitch or a proposal, vs. everyone else | 2.75 |
| In sales pitches and scripts | 2.71 |
| In an ad | 2.54 |
| In a proposal or presentation | 2.37 |
| In their email signature | 2.07 |
| Shared on social media | 1.96 |
| "As Seen On" logos on their website | 1.74 |
Base: 968 clients. Each single use is compared with clients who didn't use it that way.
It held in each survey on its own. Clients who used their feature 3 or more ways were 10.9 times as likely to report business growth in the first survey and 12.7 times as likely in the second.
And these numbers are conservative. The question told clients, "If it hasn't done anything for you yet, say so," and growth counts here only when a client could name it. A client who answered "My business grew, but I can't say how much of it was the article" is not counted as business growth.
Key takeaway: Clients who used their feature 3 or more ways were 13.9 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't use it.
How do you make a press feature pay off?
Put it everywhere a buyer decides whether to trust you, and use it at least 3 ways. That's what the clients who reported business growth did.
Just think about it. If a stranger lands on your sales page today, they don't trust you yet. Why is that? It's because you just met. "As Seen On" logos tell them you've been featured in the news before they read a word.
Social media is where clients share their feature most. Stopping there is similar to hiring a salesperson, having them stand outside your store and wave at people walking by, with the only sales strategy being the hope that someone stops, likes what they see, and then comes in to buy something. If you had a salesperson who never got in front of a prospect, you'd fire them.
Here's what to do with yours.
1. Put the "As Seen On" logos on your landing page, your sales page and your website. Clients with the logos on their website were 1.74 times as likely to report business growth, and about twice as likely to say someone brought the feature up. Your As Seen On badge comes ready to add to your website. How to use your As Seen On badge
Our founder saw the same thing in his own company before AnotherZero, outside this survey. Nic Abelian built a Los Angeles local-services company to $35M a year, and its close rate was 12.4%. Then he added "As Seen On" logos, without changing a single ad, and its close rate went to 23.1%. Its Google Ads return went from 1.75x to 18.86x. Same ads, same company, new logos.
2. Put it in your sales pitch, your proposals, your presentation and your webinar. Clients who used their feature in sales pitches and scripts were 2.71 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't. In a proposal or presentation, 2.37 times. What actually happens is most prospects need convincing before they buy, so they go looking for more information about you and your business. Hand it to them first.
3. Run it in an ad. Clients who ran their feature in an ad were 2.54 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't.
4. Add it to your email signature. Clients who did were 2.07 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't.
5. Share it on social media, and keep going. Clients who shared it were 1.96 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't.
6. Use it at least 3 ways. Clients who used it 3 or more ways were 13.9 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't use it. At 5 or 6 ways, 17.9 times.
Every one of those places is somewhere a buyer is deciding whether to trust you. There's no reason proof like this wouldn't help your conversion rate, your sales rate, your lead costs and your customer acquisition cost.
So your job now is to pick your 3 places before your feature runs: your sales page, your pitch and one more.

Why do small businesses get a press feature?
For credibility. More credibility was the top reason clients gave for getting featured, followed by more clients, trust from people who've never heard of them, and building their personal brand. Next came standing out from competitors and being seen as the expert in their field, then showing up on Google and AI like ChatGPT. In the first round of the survey, where clients could pick only 2 reasons, showing up on Google and AI like ChatGPT tied with credibility for the top reason.
Base: 228 clients in the second survey, who could pick every reason that applied.
More small-business numbers from the survey
- 92.9% own the business that got featured (survey 1, 703 clients).
- Getting clients, leads and sales is the biggest thing they're dealing with in their business right now, ahead of marketing, ads and content.
- Word of mouth and referrals is their top source of new clients, ahead of paid ads.
- AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude or Jasper are the paid software they own most, ahead of their own website or hosting.
Which outlets do clients pick?
When we offered clients a free article for finishing the survey, USANews.com was the outlet they picked most, followed by CEOTimes.com and WomensInsider.com. Clients picked 35 different outlets in all. You'll have the choice to choose from over 60 different outlets, including USA News, Women's Insider, CEO Times, Women's Magazine, New York Weekly, Biz Weekly, Men's Insider, New York Review, and many more.
How we ran this survey
- Who: 968 AnotherZero clients, each counted once. Survey 1 went to our whole client list from September 15 to 29, 2026 (703 clients). Survey 2 ran from September 29 to October 8, 2026 (323 clients; the 58 who answered both are counted once).
- What we asked: "Since your article went live, what have you done with it?" and "Which of these has the article helped with?", both pick-all-that-apply. Business growth is any of the nine growth answers listed above.
- How to read it: every answer is the client's own report. The comparisons show how often clients who used their feature a certain way also reported business growth.
- Smaller bases: the reasons for buying come from 228 clients in survey 2, "paid for itself" from the 323 in survey 2, and the small-business numbers from the 703 in survey 1.

What do small businesses do with press coverage?
They put it where buyers decide. The most common use was sharing it on social media, then adding the "As Seen On" logos to their website, using it in sales pitches and scripts, putting it in proposals and presentations, adding it to email signatures and running it in ads. In AnotherZero's survey of 968 clients, every one of those uses went with more business growth.
How do you get the most out of a press feature?
Put it where buyers decide, and use it at least 3 ways: the "As Seen On" logos on your landing page, sales page and website, plus your sales pitch, proposals, presentation, webinar, email signature, ads and social media. In our survey, clients who used it in sales pitches and scripts were 2.71 times as likely to report business growth as clients who didn't, clients who ran it in an ad were 2.54 times as likely, and clients who used it 3 or more ways were 13.9 times as likely as clients who didn't use it.
Do "As Seen On" logos work?
Clients who put the "As Seen On" logos on their website were 1.74 times as likely to report business growth and about twice as likely to say a customer, a prospect or someone in their industry brought the feature up. Why do businesses get featured in the news?
Credibility is the top reason. In AnotherZero's survey, more credibility came first, followed by more clients, trust from people who've never heard of them, and building a personal brand. When clients could pick only 2 reasons, showing up on Google and AI like ChatGPT tied with credibility for first.
Does a press feature help a business show up on Google and in AI answers like ChatGPT?
Yes. A news feature is third-party proof that shows up alongside your own site when buyers, search engines and AI tools look your business up. Every $97 feature also comes with SEO keyword research and a do-follow backlink from a high-authority news site, indexed by Google. Showing up on Google and AI like ChatGPT tied for the top reason clients got featured when they could pick only 2.
