Tech PR for Startups: How to Get Your Tech Company in the News Without a Retainer

⭐ 4.9 on Trustpilot

I'm guessing this isn't the first tech PR guide you've opened. If your launch emails to tech reporters got no reply, it's not your fault. So far 15,318+ businesses have skipped the pitch for a written feature, and for $97, one time, AnotherZero will write one about your tech, SaaS or AI company and place it in the news outlet you choose, after you approve every word. Severin Schweiger, a Shopify app founder, was "a bit skeptical" at first; then "Within just two days it was published online and even indexed by Google."

PR for Tech Startups: What a Feature Does for AI, SaaS and IT Companies

A buyer, an investor or a partner who has never heard of your startup looks you up before they reply. A feature gives them something to find that you didn't write yourself.

1. PR for AI startups: look established before you are. A product that launched last quarter sits next to tools with years of logos behind them. Cedric Alle, who builds AI agents in Côte d'Ivoire, puts the result plainly: "Now my brand looks more serious and more trusted."

2. SaaS PR: give the launch a news link. A launch post is you talking about your product. A feature is a story an outlet published, and you can time it. Juan Juan, launching an AI sports app for the World Cup: "Timing was important and they helped us with the process getting coverage prior to the World Cup starting and when it started."

3. Tech services: pass the buyer's trust check. Owners buying managed IT, security or payments can't judge the work, so they judge who has written about you. Khawar Qayyum runs an AI-first software development agency: "we start getting emails immediately with reference of the published article by them."

It works in deal talks too. Felipe Spina says his article on Maestro ABM "helped us communicate this positioning in a credible and business-oriented way." He wanted it for U.S. partners and "potential M&A conversations." Can you imagine your next investor update going out with a news link in the first line?

Story Angles for AI, SaaS and App Startups (Examples)

Editors run stories about people and problems. Here are five example angles. Pick one, or tell us yours in the intake form.

  1. "Why Dental Offices Are Letting AI Answer the Phone." It opens on a problem every reader has met, missed calls, so the AI arrives as the answer.
  2. "The Home Baker Who Wrote the Pricing Software She Couldn't Buy." A founder who built the tool for herself is a person with a reason, and editors run people.
  3. "A Sports App Built for World Cup Fans Goes Live Before Kickoff." A date readers already care about gives the story a reason to run this week instead of someday.
  4. "What a Local IT Firm Tells Small Businesses After a Ransomware Scare." Readers get something useful before any pitch, so it reads as news.
  5. "Why One Dating App Verifies Every User's ID." A stand on fake profiles, a problem readers complain about, gives an editor a position to report.

Brazil’s First ABM Platform, Maestro ABM, Brings AI-Powered Go-To-Market to Enterprise Sales

What Your Startup Gets for $97

If you were to hire a tech PR agency to land you a feature, it would commonly come inside a monthly retainer with a minimum term. But because this is one article in the outlet you pick, you only pay $97, one time.

  • SEO keyword research, so the article is built on what buyers type when they look for a tool like yours.
  • A custom 800–1,000 word article, written by a person, so a reader who has never used your product understands what it does and who it's for.
  • Unlimited revisions, and nothing publishes without your approval. No product claim or number goes live until you've checked it.
  • Guaranteed publication in the outlet you choose. You'll have the choice to choose from over 60 different outlets, including USA News, Women's Insider, CEO Times, Women's Magazine, New York Weekly, Biz Weekly, Men's Insider, New York Review, and many more.
  • A do-follow backlink from a high-authority news site, indexed by Google, so a young domain gets a link from a news site.
  • "As Seen On" usage rights, a custom banner and a social media kit, for your homepage and your pitch deck.
  • A 2-minute intake form. For a startup: what the product does in one sentence, who it's for, the problem it solves, one number you can stand behind (users, customers, a launch date, a patent) and why you started it.

Your draft comes back in 24–48 hours. One-time $97, no retainer.

The guarantees

  • Love it or it never runs. Unlimited revisions, and if you never approve it, you get a full refund and it never publishes.
  • Your chosen outlet within 7 days or your money back.
  • It stays live. Published indefinitely, and if a placement comes down within the first year, it's replaced free.
  • Lowest price of any PR firm, guaranteed.

Tech · Reached out Thursday → live on 500+ outlets incl. AP News by Saturday

Shoutout to AnotherZero PR for absolutely raising the bar. I’ve worked with a lot of vendors, agencies, and partners over the years — but I’ve never seen a PR turnaround like this. I reached out on Thursday. By Friday, the articles were written, reviewed, and ready. By Saturday, we were live across 500+ media outlets — including AP News, Barchart, and StreetInsider. That’s not just fast — it’s exceptional! But speed alone isn’t what impressed me most. The team at AnotherZero understood ViaSkill so deeply, it was as if they had been part of the vision from day one. They didn’t just promote a product - they captured the heart of what we’re building, the why behind it, and the impact it’s meant to have. That level of care, clarity, and precision is rare. If you’re a founder looking for a PR partner who gets ... this is it! Hands down

SaaS marketing for every kind of tech company: what a news feature does for SaaS, AI, app and IT businesses

Every kind of tech company gets bought a different way: a Shopify merchant installs from a listing, while a SaaS user needs a boss and a finance team to sign off. Below is where a news feature fits each one, two story angles an editor would run for it, and the clients of that kind who've been featured.

SaaS marketing: give your champion a link to forward

SaaS marketing has to win two people: the user who finds the tool, and the boss, finance lead or IT team who has to approve the spend. The user signs up for a trial, compares you on review sites like G2 and Capterra and asks peers on LinkedIn or Reddit. Then they write the internal email, and the person reading it asks what it replaces, what it costs per seat once the trial ends, and who else is already paying for it. A feature in a business outlet is the link that goes into that email, written for a reader who will never log in. Angles: "The Spreadsheet Every Finance Team Hates, and the Startup Replacing It" or "Why Companies Are Cutting Software Seats, and the Tools That Survive the Cut." Felipe Spina's USA News feature introduced Maestro ABM to U.S. buyers, and what he liked was "the fact that we were able to review the article before publication."

MSP marketing and managed service provider marketing: be the IT firm an owner trusts with the keys

MSP marketing, or managed service provider marketing, usually lands at a moment of pain: the office's IT person quits, a server dies, or a cyber insurance form asks about backups and multi-factor login that the owner can't answer. The buyer is a small business owner or office manager who can't judge your tools and won't pretend to. They ask their accountant or another owner for a name, search "managed IT services near me," then look up the two or three firms they found. What they want to know is whether you'll pick up the phone and whether you're local. A feature in a business outlet explains, in plain words, what you monitor and why that beats waiting for something to break. Jason Carson's CEO Times feature did that for Carsonix in Toronto, and he called the process "seamless and easy." Angles: "The Day the Office IT Guy Quit" or "What a Cyber Insurance Questionnaire Asks a Small Accounting Firm."

Mobile app marketing and mobile app press releases: a story behind the download

Mobile app marketing lives on the store listing, so a news feature works best where the listing can't do the job: when someone has to trust you before they install. Parents check who's behind a kids' app before handing over a phone. Dating app users want proof the profiles are real. They find you in store search, a short video or a friend's recommendation, then search your app's name and read what comes up. A mobile app press release announces a launch. A feature tells the story of why the app exists, and it gives reviewers, partners and investors one link to read. Angles: "What Parents Check Before a Kids' App Earns a Spot on the Home Screen" or "What a Word-Game Maker Learned From Its First Players." Aaron Dworkin, a word-game app founder, wrote that the article and press release "were perfect and exactly what we needed." Adam Adler, who makes an AI learn-to-earn app for kids, said they delivered "exactly what they promised and even more."

Cybersecurity PR and cybersecurity marketing: earn trust from buyers paid to doubt

Cybersecurity PR and cybersecurity marketing sell to people whose job is to distrust claims. An IT director or security lead has heard "stops every attack" from vendor after vendor, so fear-heavy ads and big promises make them close the tab. They ask for a SOC 2 report or an ISO 27001 certificate, ask peers who've used you, read analyst and community reviews, and notice how a vendor talks about a breach. At a small company the buyer is the owner, who is just as wary and less able to judge. A feature works when it explains a real threat and how you handle it, calmly, in plain words, with your team's background attached. That reads as expertise rather than a pitch. Angles: "The Phishing Text That Targets New Hires in Their First Week" or "What a Small Company's First Penetration Test Usually Finds." Mike Crandall, whose firm does cybersecurity consulting, tried AnotherZero to see what they could provide and wrote: "Great pricing, better communication and quick to deliver."

Shopify app marketing: be the developer merchants can look up

Shopify app marketing starts in two searches, the Shopify App Store's own and Google's, and a news feature helps with the second. A merchant hunting for an app types the job into the App Store, such as upsells, reviews or shipping rates, then compares star ratings, review counts, pricing and the Built for Shopify badge. Many also Google the app and its developer before installing anything that touches their checkout or theme, because a bad app can slow a store or break it mid-sale. A feature answers that search with who built the app, why, and how support works, and it links to your app's website from a news site. It won't move your App Store ranking by itself. Angles: "Why Small Shopify Stores Are Cutting Their App Count" or "What a Shopify App Has to Prove Before a Merchant's Busiest Weekend." Severin Schweiger, a Shopify app founder, wrote that "the article turned out really great," and it was indexed by Google within two days.

Fintech marketing and fintech PR: answer "is my money safe?" first

Fintech marketing has one question under every other: is my money safe with a company I'd never heard of last month? Consumers and small businesses check whether you're a bank or work with one, whether deposits are insured and by whom, which licenses you hold and who the founders are, and many search your name next to the word scam before they link an account. A feature in a business outlet puts the founders, the problem and your setup in plain words where those searches land, after your compliance lead has approved every line. Angles: "Halal Investing Goes Digital: What Muslim Savers Ask Before They Sign Up" or "Why a Fintech Startup Puts Its Partner Bank's Name on the Home Page." Bernadette Inah Mairren Pantal, of an AI fintech trust-intelligence startup, wrote that the team "were able to capture the essence of my story and mission so accurately." Hamizah Abdul Halek, in Islamic fintech and capital advisory, wrote: "It was a smooth experience as a first time write up."

IT company marketing: be the development team a buyer can check from another time zone

IT company marketing, for software development and IT services firms, comes down to one fear: hiring a team you've never met and watching the project stall halfway. The buyer is usually a founder or product manager outsourcing a build, often to a team in another country. They ask past clients for names, read review profiles on sites like Clutch, study case studies and get on a call, and before they sign they search your company and your founder. A news feature gives them what your own site can't: an outside account of who runs the firm, where the team sits and what kinds of projects it takes on. Angles: "Why More Startups Hire Their First Engineers Abroad" or "The Fixed-Price Software Project: What Has to Be True Before You Sign." Khawar Qayyum, who runs an AI-first software development agency, wrote that they "delivered as promised with speed," and emails referencing the article started arriving right away.

Healthtech marketing and healthtech PR: clear the practice manager's questions

Healthtech marketing and healthtech PR have to get past the person who runs the clinic's front office. A practice owner or manager hears about a tool from a peer, a conference or a vendor rep, and before a demo they ask: is it HIPAA compliant, will you sign a business associate agreement, does it work with our records system, and who on your team has worked in healthcare? Patients, when the product reaches them, check that a real clinical team is behind it. A feature introduces the founders and clinicians, the workflow problem you fix and the setting you fix it in, without medical claims your product hasn't earned. Angles: "Filling Last-Minute Cancellations: What Small Clinics Are Trying Now" or "The Clinician-Founder Building Software for the Front Desk." Sid, from a healthcare AI startup, wrote that they "accommodated a change after article was published." Elizabeth Watson, whose platform tracks maternal-health equity data, said it was "so much faster than I expected, without compromising the quality of the feature."

Software company marketing strategy: reach the owner who rarely buys software

A software company marketing strategy gets hard when the buyer isn't a tech person: a baker, an esthetician, a records office or a restaurant that runs on paper and habit. These owners buy software rarely, hear about it from peers, trade groups and industry Facebook groups, and fear the switch more than the price: lost data, retraining staff, a vendor that disappears mid-season. They won't read a feature list. They will read a story about someone like them that shows the software solving a problem they recognize. That's what a feature does, and it gives your site a news backlink. Angles: "Why Small Shops Still Run on Paper, and What Finally Gets Them to Switch" or "The Skin-Tracking Software Estheticians Use Between Visits." Ray Winkelman, owner of the orderprepped.com software company, bought a press release that went out to 400 websites and said he was "really happy about the SEO impact." For harshita patil, whose skin-tracking software serves estheticians, it was "valuable for any business wanting to establish credibility."

PR for AI startups: show there's a real company behind the product

PR for AI startups starts with the question every buyer and investor now asks: is this a real company, or a thin layer on someone else's model that will be gone next year? Business buyers add a second question, where their data goes, and often send a security questionnaire before a pilot. Investors search the founders. A feature answers with specifics a launch post can't carry: who the founders are, the one job the product does better than a general chatbot, and the customers it's for. Angles: "What an AI Tool Does With Your Customer Data, Explained by the Founder Who Built It" or "Why One AI Startup Picked a Single Job and Ignored the Rest." Cedric Alle, who builds AI agents, wrote that the team "quickly understand business challenges and know exactly how to translate them into powerful media coverage." Nabanita De, from an AI privacy startup, valued the care taken "refining the articles while preserving the original message and voice."

Proptech marketing: get trusted in a business that buys on referrals

Proptech marketing sells to an industry that buys on referrals. The buyer is an agent, a broker, a property manager or a small landlord. Agents often can't switch alone, because the brokerage picks the tools and anything that touches listings has to work with the local MLS; landlords want to know where tenant applications and rent payments go. They hear about tools from another agent or at a landlord association, and they've been pitched plenty of apps that didn't last. Before trusting you, they look up the founder. A feature makes you a name they've read about, even if you're new to real estate, and gives you something to send after a cold introduction. Angles: "What Small Landlords Want From Software Before They Switch" or "The Founder Who Came to Real Estate From Outside It." Esther Corvil, founder of SuddenlySpaces in Florida, said the coverage "helped me to become a thought leader in the space that I'm currently entering into," and that "we've been able to add new clients."

Payment processing company marketing: win the merchant the last processor burned

Payment processing company marketing sells to merchants who have often been burned before: a teaser rate that crept up, fees they couldn't read, or an early-termination fee when they tried to leave. A restaurant or shop owner usually meets you through a sales agent, a referral or a POS reseller, then reads your company's reviews and complaints before signing anything. What wins is plain talk about how you price, flat rate or interchange-plus, and what the contract locks them into. A feature puts that in a news outlet, where it reads as reporting instead of a sales sheet, and agents can send the link ahead of the meeting. Angles: "Reading Your Card Processing Statement: The Fees Most Owners Miss" or "Why Restaurants Are Rethinking Cash Discount Programs." David Agtsteribbe, owner of Epic Payment Solutions, said his press release "also boosted my Google ratings when you go to check for my company." Nicholas Korthals, in payment processing and merchant services, called them "great news pieces that you can share across LinkedIn."

Tech, SaaS & AI: common questions

How do I get PR for my startup?

Four ways: pitch tech reporters yourself, answer expert requests, put out a startup press release, or buy a written feature. Pitching works when you have funding news or a launch a reporter can break first. Expert requests get you a quote in someone else's story. A release reposts your announcement in your own words. A feature puts an article about your product in an outlet you pick. Need press for a launch, a deck or a raise this month? The feature is the route you control. AnotherZero writes it, and once you approve it, it runs in your chosen outlet within 7 days or your money back.

What is tech PR?

Tech PR, or tech public relations, is public relations for technology companies: getting a software, SaaS, AI, app or IT company written about in the outlets its buyers and investors read. A tech PR agency usually pitches reporters, runs launch and funding announcements, places founders as expert sources and, at the bigger firms, handles analyst relations, commonly on a monthly retainer. An early company usually needs something narrower first: one credible article that comes up when a buyer, partner or investor searches its name. That's what AnotherZero's feature is, for a one-time $97, no retainer.

How do I get featured on TechCrunch?

You earn it; no service can honestly promise a TechCrunch story. Its reporters pick what they cover, usually funding rounds and exclusives pitched before they're public. What you can pick for $97 is a business or news outlet. You'll have the choice to choose from over 60 different outlets, including USA News, Women's Insider, CEO Times, Women's Magazine, New York Weekly, Biz Weekly, Men's Insider, New York Review, and many more. Start there, and the next reporter who checks you out has a published story to read.

What does PR cost for a startup, and what should a SaaS company budget?

A tech PR agency commonly bills $5K to $15K or more a month, often with a multi-month minimum. A wire release commonly runs from about $100 to over $1,000. AnotherZero's written feature costs $97 once, with no retainer. We publish over 1,000 articles a month, which means direct relationships with editorial teams and rates individual businesses could never access. If that sounds too cheap, we understand. Mike Crandall, of a cybersecurity consulting firm, felt it too: "we are alway wary of advertisements from organizations who say they can do more for so much less." What he found: "they DID deliver!!" For an early SaaS, budget for one feature first.

Is my startup ready for PR, or do I need a launch or funding round first?

For a written feature, you need neither. You need a product people can use or sign up for, and a clear answer to who it's for and why it matters. Reporters at the big tech outlets usually wait for news like a raise; a feature tells the story of your company as it stands today. KN, a smart fire-alarm startup, put it this way: "As a startup in Vietnam, having a channel to PR our company to the world is amazing." If you're pre-launch, time the order so the article goes live the week your waitlist or app listing does.

Is an app or startup press release the same as a news feature?

No. A startup or app press release is an announcement in your own voice, such as a launch, an update, a raise or a partnership, sent out on a wire and reposted, often word for word. A feature is a story about your company, written for readers and published in one outlet. Some tech clients in the reviews below, like Ray Winkelman and Roger Svensson, bought releases sent to hundreds of sites. What AnotherZero delivers for $97 is the feature. If you also want the wide announcement, an optional $297 PR Bundle (400+ news sites) is offered after checkout.

Can I choose the outlet my article runs in?

Yes, you pick it. You'll have the choice to choose from over 60 different outlets, including USA News, Women's Insider, CEO Times, Women's Magazine, New York Weekly, Biz Weekly, Men's Insider, New York Review, and many more. For a tech company, a national news name like USA News or New York Weekly reads biggest to a buyer or an investor, and a business outlet like CEO Times or Biz Weekly suits B2B software and IT firms. Felipe Spina's Maestro ABM ran in USA News, and Jason Carson's Carsonix ran in CEO Times. It runs within 7 days or your money back.

How long until my article is live?

Your draft arrives 24–48 hours after you fill in the 2-minute form. Once you approve it, it's published in the outlet you chose within 7 days, or you get your money back. Robyn DB, who builds AI tools for solopreneurs, says "4days completed and published." Kyle, an AI legal-tech founder, says they "got it published before the time they said it would be live!" Planning a launch? Order a week or two ahead and approve the draft early, so the link is ready on launch day.

Does a news feature help SaaS SEO and show up in ChatGPT or Google AI answers?

It helps, and no one can promise a ranking. A feature gives your company two things search engines and AI tools look for: a do-follow backlink from a high-authority news site that Google indexes, which matters most to a young domain, and a third-party article that names your product, what it does and who it's for. Google rewards third-party validation, and that's the signal Google and AI use to recommend a tool. It won't replace your docs, comparison pages or reviews. We don't guarantee a ranking position or an AI mention, and you should be wary of anyone who does.

Is PR being replaced by AI?

No. AI changed where buyers look, not whether outside coverage counts. When someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI for the best tool in your category, the answer draws on what independent sources say. A published feature is the kind of third-party signal Google and AI use to recommend. What AI did flood is cheap, generic content. That's why every AnotherZero article is written by a person and approved by you before it runs.

Can I put "As Seen On" logos on my SaaS website and pitch deck?

Yes. The $97 includes "As Seen On" usage rights, a custom banner and a social media kit, so you can show the outlet's logo on your homepage, pricing page, demo booking page and pitch deck, and use the logos forever. Keep it accurate: "As Seen On USA News" says where you were featured, not that the outlet reviewed, ranked or endorses your product. Link the logo to the article so a buyer can read it. Adam Warren, a social-commerce SaaS founder, put it this way: "If you are looking for a social proof strip. There is not a better company to work with."

Will the article say our AI is the best in its category?

No. It says what your product does, who it's for and the numbers you can stand behind, the way a news feature reads. Unsupported claims are what get tech companies in trouble: in the U.S. the FTC Act bars deceptive advertising, the FTC has brought cases against companies that overstated what their AI could do, and a competitor can sue over false comparisons. So "the most accurate AI" or "replaces your whole team" stays out unless you can prove it. Nothing runs until you approve every word.

Are there rules on what a fintech or health-tech startup can say in the press?

Yes, more than in most of tech. A fintech that isn't a bank can't imply it is one, or call money FDIC-insured unless it's held at an insured partner bank and the wording is accurate, and lending and investing products carry their own disclosure rules. A health-tech product shouldn't claim to diagnose or treat anything without the clearance that claim requires, and its privacy language should match what it actually does. AnotherZero is a press-feature service, not a compliance advisor, so the approval step matters: you approve every word before it runs, and your compliance lead can read every line first.

How do I get my app featured on the Apple App Store?

Apple's editors choose what the App Store features, and those picks can't be bought. You can ask by submitting a featuring nomination in App Store Connect for a new app, a major update or an in-app event, well before it goes live. A polished app with a clear story gives you the best odds. A news feature won't put you on the Today tab. What it does is give users, reviewers and partners who search your app's name an independent article to find, with a link to your app's website from a news site.

How do SaaS companies get customers?

Most SaaS marketing is a mix: search and content that answer what buyers type, a free trial or free plan, review sites like G2 and Capterra, integration marketplaces and partners and, for bigger contracts, outbound sales. Early on, founder-led sales and two or three channels done well usually beat being everywhere. Whatever the channel, the buyer checks the company before committing, and a champion has to justify the spend to a boss. A news feature serves that step: a link that shows an outside outlet has written about you, for a one-time $97, no retainer.

How do I advertise my SaaS?

Put the ads where buyers already compare tools: search ads on the problem your product solves, paid listings on review sites like Capterra and G2, LinkedIn ads if you sell to one job title, and retargeting for trial visitors who didn't convert. Judge each channel on cost per trial or demo, not clicks, and test one at a time. Most of those clicks come from people who met your brand seconds ago, so the page they land on needs proof. An "As Seen On" strip linked to a news feature is that proof, and it costs $97 once.

How do software companies get clients?

It depends on who the software is for. Software sold to one industry, like bakeries, estheticians or restaurants, usually wins through peer referrals, trade associations and shows, resellers who already serve that industry, and search on the problem the owner has. Software sold to IT and business teams wins through trials, review sites and sales. Either way the buyer worries about switching, losing data and whether you'll be around next year. A feature in a business outlet speaks to that worry in their words. Ray Winkelman, owner of the orderprepped.com software company, was "really happy about the SEO impact" of his release.

How do IT companies and managed service providers get clients?

Mostly through referrals, then search. Software development firms win work from past clients, partner agencies, review profiles on sites like Clutch and LinkedIn outreach. Managed service providers get much of theirs from accountants, other owners and local business groups, plus searches like "managed IT services near me" after something breaks. Either way the buyer can't judge the technical work, so they judge reputation. A news feature is reputation they can read: Jason Carson's CEO Times feature presents Carsonix as the proactive IT partner for small businesses in the Greater Toronto Area.

How do I market a Shopify app?

Start in the Shopify App Store: a listing that names the job your app does in merchants' words, clear pricing, screenshots that show the result and early reviews from real stores. Then go where merchants already look: Shopify agencies and other app developers you can partner with, content that ranks for "best Shopify app for" searches, and the Shopify Community. The step most developers skip is credibility outside the store. A news feature about who built the app and why gives merchants something to find when they search your name. Severin Schweiger's Shopify app feature was indexed by Google within two days.
